The world today is beset by a myriad of environmental challenges that threaten humanity in the 21st Century. Climate change, global warming, pollution, deforestation, desertification and outbreak of pandemics such as Covid-19 present life-threatening situations to planetary earth, requiring urgent global actions. The environmental challenges are man-made and human induced. This book, therefore, provides insights on how to surmount environmental impacts through application of environemntal management tools and techniques. The book focuses on environment management approaches, environment management issues, Legislative mechanisms, and Kenyan environmental guidelines. It also includes Global management and social safeguards. Environmental assessment case studies include case studies with special attention given to EIA and ESIA Case studies done in North Rift Kenya. The book also looks at challenges and opportunities in environmental management. It introduces Environmental perspectives and approaches which include, definition of terms and standards, Environmental impact assessment, Environmental Auditing, sustainable development, policy guidelines and standards. The Environmental issues discussed broadly include: global warming and climate change; water pollution and ocean acidification; and loss of biodiversity.
Prof. Vincent Sudoi is an Associate Professor and Lecturer at the School of Environmental Studies, University of Eldoret, Kenya. He has previously worked at the Applied Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kenya (1977-1982) and was the Head of Department of Crop Protection at Tea Reseach Foundation of Kenya, Now KALROs Tea Research Institute (1983-2007). Prof Sudoi joined Moi University in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Biology, and was later appointed as HOD in the same department (2008-2010). Upon transfer of the School of Environmental Studies to Chepkoilel University College, he served as the Dean (2014 to 2018). He is the current Director of Research and Innovation at University of Eldoret. Prof Sudoi holds a PhD in Agricultural Entomology from Moi University. He has had training in various levels of research including training on Integrated Pest Management at University of London. While working for Tea Industry, he was a member of FAO Advisory Group on MRLs where he represented Kenya as a delegate to various tea growing and consumer countries i.e India, Shri-Lanka, China, and Indonesia. He also attended various consultative meetings in Germany, FAO Rome.
