The book guides the readers in building the necessary academic, study and research skills required in all spheres of life. Thus, it is anticipated that after reading the book, the reader will have been introduced to most crucial basics of the communication competencies. These competencies include the ability to manage time and resources, engage in academic debate and discussion, argue a position, locate library resources and work in groups. In addition, the book has detailed presentation on significant oral presentation skills, soft skills, study and examination techniques, appropriate reading strategies, and academic writing skills. We have no doubt that once the communication concepts are mastered, the reader will be able to interact freely with others in different places and on different occasions with varied means.

David Barasa is a Lecturer and Coordinator for Research and Publications at the Department of Language and Literature Education, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. He has a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Cape Town and is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. His research is on the fields of Linguistics and Communication Studies, with special reference to language and communication, language documentation, language policy analysis, language contact and variation, and multilingualism.

Benard Mudogo is a Lecturer in Linguistics, English Language and Communication Skills at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree in English and Literature from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Arts Degree in English and Linguistics from Kenyatta University and a PhD in Linguistics from Maseno University. His areas of research include: Translation and Interpretation, Semantics, Cognitive Linguistics, Communication Skills and Morphology.
