Risk and Insurance from a Practical Perspective is an approach taken by the author from his vast experience of over seventeen years in the practice of insurance as a sales executive and a manager. The book’s objective is to demonstrate the role insurance plays in the sustenance of both individual consumers and organisations of insurance services in keeping them afloat in the event of insured risks. The book is intended for students with little or no prior education in insurance. It may serve as the basis for more advanced texts for those students who intend to specialise in the field of insurance, and at the same time, it constitutes a compendium of what an informed citizen and consumer should know about the subject. It is a book on insurance literature intended to be used by students at certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree levels. It leads them to qualifications in business administration, business management, or bachelor of commerce, where insurance as a unit must be learned. The book will be relevant to Insurance practitioners and other students pursuing professional business courses with the College of Insurance, leading to a Certificate of Proficiency (C.O.P), Executive Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance (E.C.O.P) or Diploma in Insurance.

Dr. Faraji Anduku Yatundu, Phd is a Lecturer in the School of Business and Economics, and Marketing Chairman at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU). He holds a PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from Kisii University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) – Marketing Option – and a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) – Marketing Option – all from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. He has a professional Diploma in Business Administration from Technical University of Mombasa and another Diploma in Technical Education (Business Administration Option) from Kenya Technical Teachers College (KTTC). He also has a certificate of Proficiency from College of Insurance.  Faraji has been a part time lecturer for over 10 years at University of Eldoret, Kibabii, Masinde Muliro, Kaimosi Friends and Kisii Universities in Kenya. Faraji has experience spanning over 17 years in Marketing and Sales Management having worked for CIC Insurance, Britam, ICEA LION GROUP and Madison Group as a Manager at different levels.  Faraji is a full member of Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) and a member of Utafiti Foundation.  He has grown academically, teaching Business courses majorly Marketing, Insurance, Research and Logistics both at undergraduate and post graduate levels. He has interest in business consultancy and real estate with a bias on business formation, growth and management.
