Contemporary Pre-School Teaching Methodologies: An Analysis of the Influence of Instructional Resource Availability in Kenya

Category:

Description

Teachers can influence the lives of tomorrow’s leaders and have the ability to cultivate in their students a love for learning. To teach is a calling that requires responsibility and accountability. By teaching ECDE learners, the discipline of hard work and engaging in lifelong learning, teachers enable learners to make a difference in society and to make the world a better place. This book attempts to discuss the immense influence teachers have in choosing the appropriate teaching strategies in teaching young learners. The book discusses issues on training, choice of teaching strategies, influence of play, class songs, dances and game activities and use available materials effectively and the latest developments regarding pedagogy of young learners. The text is a convenient reference text for students, practicing teachers, student-teacher trainees, education policy makers and other stakeholders in education.

This book tackles a very important stage of education in this country – ECDE. Paradoxically, while the government has put a lot of effort and resources in primary, secondary and tertiary education, successive regimes have tended to place less emphasis on it, yet ECDE is the foundation of all learning. In his analysis, Dr. Rotumoi clearly outlines the challenges, achievements and prospects in this field. This is a very useful resource for teachers, scholars on education, the government (especially the Ministry of Education), and various stakeholders [Dr. J. B. Okong’o; Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya].

Dr. Joseph Rotumoi (PhD), a lecturer at University of Kabianga, has a vast experience in teaching literature at secondary and tertiary institutions since 1991. He has a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Communication and Technology (Literature Education) from Moi University, a Master of Philosophy (Literature Education) and a Bachelor of Education from Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and a Diploma in Education from Siriba Teachers Training College. He currently teaches Educational Communication and Technology and Curriculum Development Studies, among other units.
