Description
I was born and raised in Kariua Village, located in Gatundu North, Kiambu County. I attended Kamwangi Primary School, followed by Muhoho and Kirimara High Schools, before pursuing my studies at the University of Nairobi, United States International University–Africa (USIU-Africa), and Catholic University of Eastern Africa, where I obtained a Doctoral Degree in Social Transformation. Additionally, I earned a Certified Public Accountant Diploma at Strathmore College. I have worked as a Chartered Accountant and Financial and Business Consultant, and I am also a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). I became a Member of Parliament in the 11th Parliament, serving as the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade, Industry, Co-operatives, and Tourism for Kiambu County, Kenya, and later as the Chairman of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA)
While growing up, I saw a ray of hope in the mid-1970s and early 80s, which was later overshadowed by the extreme poverty of my childhood years. Agitated by this experience, I joined Parliament to transform lives, and later joined the devolved Government, where I chaired a National Board. Frustrated by the slow pace of transformation envisioned by our forefathers’ dreams, I researched alternative methods for transformation. I employed a mixed-methods research approach to examine the influence of social enterprise activities on social transformation in Kiambu County, which is similar to that of many others. The research findings indicated that entrepreneurial capital, culture, and orientation have a direct positive correlation with social transformation, while gender has a moderating effect on the variables.
