This book is a documentation, by Dr. Rose Nyambura Kiiru, of data from evidence-based research. The motivation and drive started in 1998, culminating in 2022. She has been an educator in Secondary schools, Tertiary Institutions and Mental health Settings. This work contains four themes, each based on specific themes relating to polydrug use among patients undergoing Methadone Assisted Therapy (MAT). The first theme dwells on the prevalence of polydrug. The second theme provides evidence of the types of polydrug commonly used. The third theme focuses on factors that cause polydrug use. The last theme demonstrates motivational interviewing in reducing polydrug use among MAT patients. The book contains valuable resources for Mental health professionals, school administrators, Mental health stakeholders and policymakers.
Dr. Rose Nyambura Kiiru is a Life Skills lecturer and Head of the Department of Virtual and Extension Learning Department (ODFL), at Thika TTI in Kenya. She is a consultant clinical psychologist and a researcher who has published six articles in reputable journals in her discipline of specialisation. She holds a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree (PsyD), a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a bachelor’s Degree in Education. She has professional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); International Certified Addiction Professional-treatment, Intervention for Adolescents, Substance Abuse and Motivational Interviewing, and Certified Professional Mediator MTT(i) – East Africa.
